HAFP Workshops

Process for Obtaining ABFM Performance Improvement (PI) Credit

HAFP has been approved by ABFM for its Organizational Performance Improvement (PI) Pathway and the following HAFP-sponsored workshops are eligible for earning Performance Improvement credit:

  • 11/4/23 POCUS Workshop: Abdominal
  • 11/18/24 Group KSA: Pain Management
  • 2/16/24 IUD Workshop: IUD Insertions and Removals
  • 2/17/24 CGM Workshop
  • 2/17/24 POCUS Workshop: Ultrasound of the Knee
  • 8/17/24 POCUS Workshop: Cardiac
  • 10/26/24 Group KSA: Behavioral Health

 

The following process measure was chosen for obtaining PI credit for the workshops (see detailed examples below):

Percentage of eligible patients who receive education or clinical procedure related to the applicable HAFP workshop

OBTAINING ABFM PI CREDIT

In order to receive PI credit for this activity, you must do the following steps over a 3–6-month period in 2024:

  1. PARTICIPATE: Attend one of the HAFP-sponsored workshops listed above or new workshops offered in 2024.
  2. PLAN:
    1. Create an improvement team in your practice
    2. Pull baseline data (1–3-month lookback) of patients eligible for the education/procedure related to this workshop prior to the date of the workshop you attended
    3. Determine your improvement goal for the following measure: Improve percentage of eligible patients who received education about or implementation of [clinical procedure or diagnosis] by [N%] – (see below for specific example)
    4. Design your intervention (see example below)
  3. DO: Implement your intervention for at least one month
  4. STUDY: Pull data for one month after the intervention period to remeasure impact of intervention
  5. ACT: Determine how to improve your intervention; put processes in place to automate your intervention
  6. REPORT: Complete and return an attestation form provided by HAFP

Once HAFP receives your attestation, we will submit your information to ABFM for PI credit.

 

Examples

EXAMPLE: CGM WORKSHOP

Improvement Goal: Improve percentage of eligible patients who receive education about or implementation of CGM device by 10%.

Data Collection:

  • Baseline (3-month look back): Percentage of patients eligible for CGM who received education about and/or CGM device.
    • Example baseline measure: From the measurement period 12/1/2023 – 1/1/2024, 5% of patients eligible for CGM received education about and/or was provided a CGM device.
  • Intervention (1-3 months): Review upcoming schedule for patients eligible for CGM and include either education about or implement this procedure during appointment.
  • Remeasurement: Percentage of patients eligible for CGM who received education and/or CGM device.

 

EXAMPLE: POCUS WORKSHOP

Improvement Goal: Improve percentage of eligible patients who received point of care ultrasound during their visit by 10%.

Data Collection:

  • Baseline (3-month look back): Percentage of patients eligible for POCUS who received this procedure.
  • Intervention (1-3 months): Review upcoming schedule for patients eligible for POCUS and include either education about or implement this procedure during appointment.
  • Remeasurement: Percentage of patients eligible for POCUS who received education and/or the procedure.
