Student Shadowing Opportunities
Kaiser HPMG
- Potential Career Shadowers: are at least 16 years old; submit all required documents at least 1 month before the requested start date; may be approved for up to a total of 40 shadowing hours (observation only) with an HPMG staff physician or provider
- Requirements before entering a KP facility (approved internally): HPMG hosting provider, chief, and department/ clinic supervisor approvals; health clearance; HIPAA and compliance training; waiver of liability and indemnity; CV; receipt of approval email from HPMG-UME@kp.org
- Shadowing Days: patients must grant permission to have shadower present; NO “hands-on” contact with patients; NO shadowing when patient is positive or suspect of a respiratory infectious disease or when an aerosol generating procedure is being performed; social distancing must be followed to the extent possible; mask and Career Shadowing badge must always be worn; visitor entry process must be followed each reporting day
- To maintain active status, approved shadowers must: complete the hour report form within 1 week of each shadowing day; send any OR/ ASC shadowing requests to HPMG-UME@kp.orgno later than 7 days prior to the OR/ ASC shadowing date for approval (all OR/ ASC shadowing requests will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis); report any pauses or early completion of shadowing opportunities to HPMG-UME@kp.org within 2 business days; submit extension requests to the program coordinator as soon as possible

Straub Hawaii Pacific Health
- For shadowing inquiries, the individual can send an email to hphstudents@hawaiipacifichealth.orgor call our office at 808-535-7571 with their request and our team will assist.
- Include name, contact info, timeframe of when they hope to shadow, as well as a brief description of the careers/departments they hope to shadow in.
- If they don't already have someone to shadow, we’ll attempt to find someone.
- Note that summer is a very busy time for shadowing as many students request to shadow while they’re home and on break.
Queen's Health System
- Applicants must complete an application and adhere to the following requirements:
- Meet the qualifications for shadowing, be selected, and complete shadowing orientation.
- Obtain the consent of the individual being shadowed.
- Obtain the consent of the unit/department/program manager.
- Agree to the limitations on Participant's activities during shadowing.
- Adhere to all health screening requirements.
- Agree to tracking and record-keeping of Participant's presence on campus.
- Show proof of health care insurance.
- Be able to communicate in English.
